Jean Walcot

"In recent years Jean Walcot's work has been strongly influenced by President Franklin D Roosevelt's statement - in 1939 that -
"a radical is a man who plants his feet firmly in the air"
I was keen to show, she explains, 'that whether radical or non-radical, it was possible to keep one's feet firmly on the ground just as it is possible to maintain some respect while keeping feet 'firmly in the air.'
This marks a major change in my work and the value of space is a predominent factor in the execution of the idea. "This was the start of her artistic obsession with the foot", the development of which has progressed through photographic and digital images to computer generated distortion, and finally, to a deeper interpretation.
