'The Entry of the Elect into Paradise'
A series of paintings depicting the 'The Entry of the Elect into Paradise' based on the 14th century fresco from the monastry of Christ in Istanbul.
On the gate of Heaven is the head of a seraph, appearing between two pairs of red wings which form a 'mandorla', a shape that suggests the female genitilia. Far from being sacrilegious, this connection is proper, offering a symbolic representation of rebirth in the afterlife and prefigures the resurrection of the flesh.
